The Board has three new members and a current Board member has been reappointed for a further term.
In December, the Treasurer Hon Michael Aird announced that the Government would not pursue the development of a new Tasmanian community grants program to replace the Community Support Levy (CSL) and the TCF.
Applications are being sought for grants in the Fund's latest funding round with up to $2 million expected to be allocated to projects around the State. This is the TCF's 20th grant round and over the past eight years, the Fund has allocated around $48 million to almost 1300 community organisations or projects throughout Tasmania.
While hundreds of Tasmanian families are seeing benefits from Fund's five-year program to build Tasmania as a 'Learning Community', it is the entire community that will benefit in the long term. In the second phase of the $9.5 million initiative focusing on adult and family literacy, TCF support has helped fund a number of important community projects across the state.
The family has always been at the heart of any child's education. This is why the Fund is pleased to support The Smith Family's 'Family Learning Club' initiative in the second phase of a $9.5-million, five-year program to build Tasmania as a learning community.
An innovative project that aims to tackle literacy problems in at-risk Aboriginal young people has received support from the Fund in the second phase of a $9.5 million, five-year program to build Tasmania as a learning community. The meenah mienne ('My Dream') Literacy Through Art and Business project will improve self-esteem and communication skills amongst Aboriginal young people by helping them establish and run a business to make, market and sell their own artwork.
